Our Story
In the warm embrace of summer 2020, a ripple of change began in the world of senior fitness. Certified water aerobics trainer Donna Wellons brought to life ‘Water Walkers,’ a class that has since become more than just an exercise routine – it’s a thriving community for seniors.
From the very beginning, Donna envisioned a space where physical activity and social connection could blend seamlessly. Water Walkers was not just about moving in the water; it was about creating waves of positivity in every aspect of senior health – physical, mental, and spiritual.
As the classes commenced at Hetzel Pool, during the exclusive senior pool time from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM, Monday through Saturday, something beautiful happened. What started with a modest group of participants soon blossomed, with numbers growing from 18 to an astonishing average of 38 women. Each day, the pool became a hub of energy, laughter, and camaraderie.
Water Walkers is more than just an aerobics class. It’s a sanctuary where seniors find strength not just in their muscles, but in their hearts and spirits. The exercises are carefully designed to boost cardiovascular health, improve energy levels, and manage weight. But the benefits transcend the physical. Stepping out of their homes and into the pool, our seniors dive into a world where they are part of a community of peers, all sharing in the joy of movement and the warmth of friendship.
In the sparkling waters of the pool, our seniors aren’t just exercising; they are rejuvenating, laughing, and connecting. They leave each session not just with energized bodies, but with lifted spirits, feeling young, vibrant, and part of something truly special.
Water Walkers has become a testament to the power of community and the enduring strength of the human spirit. It’s a place where every splash tells a story of joy, every stroke carves out new friendships, and every ripple echoes with the laughter of renewed youth.
This is our story – the story of Water Walkers – where every senior steps in to exercise and steps out feeling extraordinary.
